Canadian Confidence Holds Steady Amid Economic Uncertainty
The Bloomberg-Nanos Canadian Confidence Index has dipped slightly to 50.45, down from 51.80 four weeks prior. The survey, conducted by Nanos Research and commissioned by Bloomberg, reflects a cautious public mood as Canadians remain steady in their personal finances and job security but express growing doubts about the broader economy and housing market.
Nik Nanos, Chief Data Scientist at Nanos, noted that while there is no widespread alarm, the weakening expectations are capping overall enthusiasm. The findings are based on four waves of tracking, ending on October 2, 2026, with a sample size of 1,020 respondents. The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
The research, conducted via RDD dual frame telephone surveys (including both cell- and land-lines), suggests that households are maintaining stability, but economic uncertainty is tempering optimism. The full report and data tables, including weighted and unweighted interview numbers, are available for further review.
