Canadian Dollar Faces Modest Downside Risks Due to Trade Uncertainties

HSBC analysts have issued a cautious warning about the Canadian dollar's outlook, predicting modest downside risks due to trade uncertainties and yield differentials.

The bank points out that Canada's reliance on exports, particularly to the United States, makes it vulnerable to any escalation in tariffs or trade barriers. This could negatively impact Canadian exports and weaken the currency.

Yield differentials also play a crucial role, with U.S. interest rates remaining relatively high compared to Canada. This may lead to capital outflows from Canada and put downward pressure on the loonie.
