Canada's economy added a significant number of jobs in July, surpassing expectations and further indicating its resilience to US tariffs and international tensions. Statistics Canada reported a net gain of 75,100 positions across both full-time and part-time sectors.

The unemployment rate dropped for the third consecutive month, dipping from 6.5% to 6.4%, which is a level not seen since July 2022. This decline follows a strong job market in May, where 87,800 positions were created.

The Bank of Canada had previously stated that there are signs the economy is coping better with US tariffs and international tensions. The institution predicted annualized second-quarter growth to hit 2.5% after stalling earlier in the year. However, preliminary data suggested a more robust 3.4% gain for the quarter.
