Canadian Market Falls Despite Oil Price Bump
The S&P/TSX composite index took a hit on September 24, 2026, despite gains in the energy sector as oil prices rose. The November crude oil contract increased by US$3.62 to US$95.78 per barrel.
This increase was not enough to lift the Canadian market, with the S&P/TSX composite index falling by 167.03 points to 35,584.40. In New York, major indexes also declined, with the Dow Jones industrial average down 347.74 points at 51,163.85 and the Nasdaq composite down 207.19 points at 26,728.85.
The Canadian dollar traded for 70.71 cents US, a slight decrease from the previous day's 70.94 cents US. Gold prices also declined, with the December contract falling by US$33.70 to US$4,284.70 an ounce.
