Carney Greenlights Controversial Pacific Link Pipeline Project
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has designated the proposed Pacific Link pipeline project as being in the national interest, paving the way for its construction to be fast-tracked over the next year.
The pipeline, which will run from Alberta across British Columbia to the Vancouver area, is expected to carry a million barrels of oil per day, doubling Canada's exports to Asia and reducing reliance on the United States.
Carney announced the designation in Fort McMurray, Alberta, saying it would unlock the full potential of Canada as a global energy superpower and create hundreds of thousands of good jobs.
The pipeline is expected to cost up to $43 billion but will provide an estimated $40 billion per year for the economy, according to Carney's experts.
