Carney Says Canada Will Thrive in Trade War, Emerge Stronger Than Ever

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada will emerge from its trade war with the United States as a more resilient and independent economy. Speaking at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, Ontario, on September 15, 2026, he emphasized that his country is prepared to wait for the right conditions rather than rush into a deal with Washington.

PM Carney highlighted that about 80% of trade between Canada and the US remains tariff-free. He noted that there is a mutually beneficial arrangement that can be had when it's the right time, adding that Canada will be ready to do that when the conditions are favorable.

The Canadian Prime Minister also discussed Ottawa's plan to seek private investment through long-term concessions to operate its four largest airports. This move could raise tens of billions of dollars for reinvesting in transportation and other infrastructure while retaining public ownership of land and assets.
