Carney Unveils $1T Investment Plan in Bid to Boost Canada's Economy
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has made significant moves to attract investment and boost Canada's economy. As part of his effort to streamline government project reviews, Carney introduced the Building Canada Strong Act in Parliament on September 21. The act sets a one-year timeframe for major infrastructure and resource decisions, aiming to reduce the lengthy federal review process.
In a bid to draw investment, Carney pledged a trillion Canadian dollars over the next five years at the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto from September 14 to 15. He presented 167 investment opportunities across various sectors, including energy, critical minerals, defense, and artificial intelligence data centers.
The summit also saw the introduction of the Productivity Mega Deduction (PMD), which allows Canadian businesses to immediately write off most new capital investments. This move is expected to send a strong signal to global investors, attracting them to Canada's market.
