Chile's IPSA Index and Peso Take Hit from Stronger US Dollar
Chile's main S&P IPSA stock index fell by 0.7% on Wednesday, reaching 11,367.47 points. This decline is part of a two-day streak for the index, which remains near its all-time high despite the recent losses.
The peso weakened against the dollar, dropping by around 0.9% to approximately 921.6 pesos per U.S. dollar. The strengthening of the dollar has had an impact on global currencies, with the DXY dollar index rising by about 0.2% after the release of the U.S. July PCE price index.
The decline in the IPSA was led by several key stocks, including Mallplaza, which operates shopping centers and saw its shares fall by 2.8%. Latam Airlines shares also lost ground, decreasing by 2.5%, while those of energy conglomerate Copec declined by 1.6%.
