Chinese Car Brands Deny Government Subsidies, Cite Inflation and Technology
Chinese car brands have been undercutting their legacy competitors in Australia by offering affordable prices. One of these brands, Chery, has seen a surge in sales with its cheapest new cars on the market.
The Tiggo 4 Pro is priced from $23,990 drive-away and has become the best-selling small SUV. Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer at Chery Australia, dismissed accusations that low prices are due to government subsidies.
He stated, 'If you account for inflation, yes, I think it is sustainable.' Harris added that cars in Australia remain affordable compared to most countries in Europe and emphasized the importance of technology in attracting buyers.
