Christine Lagarde, the President of the European Central Bank, will be honored with the Stanley Hoffmann Award at the Sciences Po American Foundation's 2027 Annual Benefit dinner on June 2, 2027, in New York. The award recognizes her global vision, principled public service, and commitment to the transatlantic partnership, qualities that embody the spirit of the Stanley Hoffmann Award.
Lagarde's career spans law, government, and international finance. She began as a lawyer at Baker McKenzie, rising to Global Chairman in 1999. She later served in the French government, including as Minister of Economy and Finance from 2007 to 2011. From 2011 to 2019, she led the International Monetary Fund before becoming President of the European Central Bank in November 2019.
Her leadership has been widely recognized, including the Transatlantic Leadership Award, the Atlantic Council’s Global Citizenship Award, and the Paul A. Volcker Lifetime Achievement Award in 2026. She was also named Grand Officer of the French National Legion of Honor in 2026.
The Gala supports Sciences Po’s mission to enhance its presence in the United States, support American students studying at Sciences Po, and foster transatlantic academic collaboration. The event aims to amplify Sciences Po’s role as a key voice in European political thought.
