Circle Unveils StableFX for 24/7 Stablecoin Settlement on Arc Blockchain
Circle has launched StableFX on its Arc blockchain network, providing approved institutions with 24/7 access to stablecoin-based foreign exchange settlement. The system uses RFQ pricing from multiple liquidity providers and smart-contract settlement, allowing both sides of a trade to complete together.
Unlike traditional foreign exchange markets, where settlement occurs during specific banking hours, StableFX enables businesses to settle their trades immediately or use programmable windows for netting before final settlement. This payment-versus-payment structure reduces principal risk by ensuring that neither party sends its currency until the other has received theirs.
The model currently supports a range of stablecoin currencies, including USDC and EURC, as well as tokens representing various national currencies such as the Australian dollar, Brazilian real, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, and South African rand. Circle Technology Services supplies the APIs and smart contracts behind StableFX but does not take custody of the assets being exchanged or transmit funds on users' behalf.
Circle's pitch is that stablecoins can remove some of the old-market friction in foreign exchange settlement. By using stablecoins, institutions can move between currencies, manage settlement risk, and keep capital working outside conventional market hours.
