Circle's Rebound Raises Questions About Its Future as 'Digital Dollar Money Printer'
Circle, the issuer of USDC, the world's second-largest US dollar stablecoin, has seen its stock price rebound to $71.28 after falling from an all-time high of nearly $300 to near $50 in a year since going public.
USDC is pegged 1:1 to the USD and allows funds to remain on-chain while avoiding crypto asset price volatility.
The company's model involves users providing funds, reserve assets generating interest, and Circle sharing revenue with distribution partners. However, Circle's ambitions go beyond this, as it builds a payment network that uses stablecoins for cross-border settlement and launches a dedicated blockchain for payments, foreign exchange, and asset trading.
Yet, the company faces challenges due to recent Fed rate cuts and a cooling crypto market, which have dragged down reserve yields.
