Colombia's Peso Tops Gainers as Currency Markets See Sharp Fluctuations
Currency markets have experienced significant fluctuations over the past year, with some currencies rising and others falling sharply against the U.S. dollar. According to data from Deutsche Bank, the one-year performance of 36 major currencies through June 30, 2026 shows sharp regional contrasts. Colombia's peso has been a standout performer, gaining 19.2% against the U.S. dollar over the past year, outpacing the second-place Israeli shekel by six percentage points.
The Israeli shekel gained 13.2%, while other currencies such as the Hungarian forint and South African rand lagged behind. The results highlight the varying fortunes of different regions, particularly across Latin America and Asia. Colombia's strong performance stands out in a year marked by significant gains and losses against the U.S. dollar.
