Commerzbank Shares Slip Amid Ongoing UniCredit Takeover Saga
Commerzbank's stock price slipped 2.6% on Friday to close at EUR 40.37, following a run that briefly pushed the stock toward a 15-year peak.
The Frankfurt lender is now 6.9% below its 52-week high of EUR 43.34, which it touched midweek before the pullback set in.
Bettina Orlopp, Commerzbank's chief executive, reaffirmed the bank's full-year targets and flagged additional tailwind for net interest income in 2027 during a Barclays conference.
Despite her upbeat commentary, investors locked in profits following the stock's climb to multi-year highs, leaving the share price unchanged by the end of the week.
The valuation remains high due to the ongoing takeover saga involving Italy's UniCredit, which has a 49.65% stake in Commerzbank and is waiting for regulatory clearances from the European Central Bank.
