Cook Removal Bid Hits Roadblock as Attorney Cites Lack of Legally Cognizable Cause

White House efforts to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook have been met with resistance from her attorney, who argues that there is 'no legally cognizable cause' for her ouster. In a letter dated August 11, Abbe David Lowell rejected the mortgage-fraud allegations President Donald Trump has cited to justify Cook's removal.

Cook was accused of falsely listing two properties as primary residences on mortgage applications in 2021, but Lowell maintains that even if these claims were true, they would not meet the legal standard required for removal. The Supreme Court previously rejected Trump's bid to fire Cook in a 5-4 ruling, holding that he had not followed federal law procedures.

The White House renewed its effort earlier this month, with Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino sending Cook a letter alleging she made false statements about mortgage agreements. The outcome of this latest challenge remains uncertain.
