Cuban Informal Currency Market Sees Mixed Activity as Dollar Holds Steady
The informal currency exchange market in Cuba is experiencing mixed trends this Sunday, with some currencies showing stability and others declining. The U.S. dollar remains unchanged at 664 Cuban pesos compared to yesterday's value, but it has decreased by 8.5 pesos (-1.3%) over the past week.
On the other hand, the euro has dropped from 760 pesos, a reduction of 2.5 pesos (-0.3%), while the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) has experienced a more significant dip, losing 11 pesos (-2.4%) from yesterday's 457 pesos.
Despite the dollar's daily stability, its value is still below what it was a week ago. In contrast, the euro's decline over the past week is more pronounced, having fallen by 20 pesos (-2.6%). The MLC's current value is four pesos below the 450 pesos recorded a week ago, equating to a 0.9% drop.
When looking at monthly trends, the picture changes. The dollar was at 655 pesos a month ago and has since increased by 9 pesos (+1.4%). The euro was also at 755 pesos a month ago but has only risen by 2.5 pesos (+0.3%), while the MLC has climbed from 442 to 446 pesos, an increase of 4 pesos (+0.9%).
