Cuban Informal Market Sees Dollar and Euro Rise Amid Ongoing Currency Scarcity
The Cuban informal market closed on Sunday, August 23, with increases in both the US dollar and euro. The dollar rose to 665 Cuban pesos (CUP) at the end of the day, a gain of 2 CUP compared to the previous day's closing price. This marks an increase of 1 CUP from its weekly average of 664 CUP.
In contrast, the euro's weekly performance shows a decline, having fallen 8 CUP from its weekly high of 760 CUP. However, in terms of monthly movement, the euro has fluctuated between 746 and 790 CUP, with a current value of 752 CUP.
The MLC (Moneda Libremente Convertible), Cuba's parallel currency, saw an increase to approximately 449 CUP at the end of the day. However, this value is considered indicative due to the low volume of transactions supporting it.
