Cuban Informal Market Sees Dollar Soar as Euro Remains Stable

The informal market in Cuba has seen a significant fluctuation in exchange rates on September 16, 2026. The U.S. dollar experienced an upward trend, closing at an average value of 699 Cuban pesos (CUP), representing a 1.5 peso increase compared to the previous day.

This marks a 36.5 peso rise from 30 days ago and a 11.5 peso increase in the last week alone, with the dollar now trading between a minimum of 663 CUP and a maximum of 699 CUP recorded today.

The euro, on the other hand, remained stable, ending the session unchanged compared to the previous day at an average value of 795 CUP. However, it has gained 17.5 pesos over the past week, surpassing the dollar by 96 pesos and establishing itself as the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market.
