Cuban Peso Slides as Euro Hits Monthly High in Informal Market
The informal currency market in Cuba is experiencing an upward trend, with both the U.S. dollar and euro seeing significant gains against the Cuban peso.
By July 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time, the exchange rate for the euro had risen to 785 Cuban pesos (CUP), representing a jump of 6.5 CUP from the previous day's closing rate of 778 CUP.
This increase marks the highest value of the euro in the past month and reinforces its upward pressure, making it the most expensive currency in Cuba's parallel market, surpassing the dollar by 111 CUP.
The U.S. dollar also saw an increase, trading at 674 CUP on this Saturday, up from 673 CUP the previous day and representing a 1.7% gain over the week.
The disparity between official and informal exchange rates remains significant, with the unofficial rate exceeding the official rate by 73 pesos for the dollar and 101 pesos for the euro.
