Cuban Peso Under Pressure as Dollar and Euro Continue to Rise
The informal market in Cuba closed on September 20, 2026, with the US dollar and euro solidifying gains against the Cuban peso. The dollar finished the day higher compared to the previous day, trading at 713 Cuban pesos (CUP), an increase of 4 pesos from its value the day before.
In a weekly perspective, the dollar has climbed 19 pesos from the 694 CUP recorded seven days ago, representing a rise of 2.7%. Compared to 30 days ago, the currency has gained 50 pesos from the 663 CUP, although this month-over-month comparison may partly reflect methodological adjustments to the index and not solely market movement.
The euro also closed the day at a higher value than the previous session, trading at 815 CUP, representing an increase of 10 pesos. Over the course of the week, the euro has gained 24.5 pesos from the 791 CUP recorded seven days ago, marking a rise of 3.1%.
