Cuba's Informal Currency Market Stabilizes Amid Economic Pressures
The informal currency market in Cuba has stabilized this Sunday, August 16, 2026. The US dollar closed at 664 Cuban pesos (CUP), remaining unchanged from the previous session and maintaining a rate that has fluctuated between 660 and 675 CUP over the past 30 days.
The euro also showed stability, ending the day at 760 CUP, a slight gain of 2.5 pesos from its opening value. However, in weekly comparison, it declined by 17.5 pesos compared to seven days ago, representing a drop of 2.3%.
The MLC (Monto Local de Compra), with limited data and indicative values, closed at around 458 CUP, an increase of 23 pesos or 5.3% from the previous session.
