Cuba's Informal Currency Market Surges on Wednesday
Cuba's informal currency market saw significant gains on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The US dollar closed at 725 Cuban pesos (CUP), a rise of 5 pesos from the previous day, and its highest point in the last 30 days.
The euro also surged, reaching 826 CUP, up by 3 pesos from the previous session and its second-highest peak in the past month. In contrast, the MLC traded at around 468 CUP due to low trading volume.
The disparity between official and informal rates continues to grow, with the dollar's gap exceeding 52 pesos and the euro's difference nearly 56 pesos from their respective official exchange rates.
