Cuba's Informal Market Sees Dollar and Euro Rise Amid Economic Uncertainty
The informal currency market in Cuba experienced significant fluctuations on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. The U.S. dollar and euro saw gains compared to the previous session, while the MLC (the domestic currency pegged to the Cuban peso) declined.
The U.S. dollar rose by 1.5 Cuban pesos to 669 CUP, marking a 1% increase over the past week. The euro increased by 2.5 Cuban pesos to 758 CUP, achieving a 1% advance in the same period.
The MLC saw a drop of 13.5 Cuban pesos to 458 CUP, which is an indicative value due to limited transaction volume. This decline follows a decrease of 12.5 Cuban pesos over the past week.
