Cuba's Informal Market Sees Dollar Rise, Euro Stability
The informal currency market in Cuba continues to be driven by the U.S. dollar, which rose by 3.5 Cuban pesos (CUP) on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to close at 709 CUP. This marks a 2.4% increase over the last week and an accumulated gain of 46.5 pesos compared to 30 days ago.
The euro, however, remains stable, holding steady at 805 CUP for the second day in a row. Despite its stability, the euro has gained 17.5 pesos over the past week and is now the most expensive currency in the Cuban parallel market, exceeding the dollar by 96 pesos.
Meanwhile, the MLC (a mysterious digital currency) saw significant movement on Saturday, rising by 30 CUP to reach an indicative value of 513 CUP. This increase comes despite the low volume of transactions backing it, and its use is still limited due to its lack of physical existence.
