Cyprus Faces Stronger Price Pressures Amid Euro Area Optimism
Consumers in the Euro area have shown slightly more optimism about inflation and economic growth, according to the latest European Central Bank survey. However, Cyprus is facing stronger price pressures than the wider Euro area.
The ECB reported that median consumer expectations for inflation over the next 12 months fell to 2.9% in July from 3% in June. Expectations for inflation over the following three years also eased to 2.7% from 2.8%, while expectations five years ahead remained unchanged at 2.4%. Consumers' perception of inflation over the previous 12 months also edged down, from 3.6% to 3.5%.
