Cyprus inflation steady at 5.2% in September 2026
Cyprus saw its annual inflation rate hold steady at 5.2% in September 2026, matching the figure from August, according to Eurostat’s latest flash estimate. The European Union-Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) had shown a gradual rise in Cyprus earlier this year, climbing from 3.0% in April to 4.4% in July before hitting 5.2% in August. The estimate for September suggests a 0.4% decrease in inflation compared to the previous month. A year earlier, in September 2025, Cyprus had recorded an annual inflation rate of 0.0%.
Meanwhile, inflation in the broader euro area increased to 3.8% in September 2026, up from 3.2% in August. Greece’s harmonized inflation index was previously estimated at 5.1% for the same month, marking the highest rate in nearly four years. Among the key drivers of euro area inflation, energy prices are projected to rise by 18.8% annually in September, compared to 14.3% in August.
The Cyprus Fiscal Council, however, dismissed any calls for across-the-board tax measures to combat inflation, stating its opposition on Friday.
