Cyprus Surges into Top 3 for Price Acceleration in Europe
Cyprus has experienced an unprecedented inflationary reversal over the past year, moving from zero inflation in September 2025 to a 5.2% price index in September 2026. This sharp spike positions the country among Europe's fastest-rising price growth states.
The data release coincides with the government's announcement of new consumer support measures and the fiscal council's report, which criticizes these measures as temporary and ineffective.
The fiscal council proposes an institutional framework to combat inflation, based on five strict prerequisites: data transparency, targeted beneficiaries, pre-legislated rules, a fiscal envelope, and independent evaluation. This framework aims to transform state support into a transparent and automatic system.
