Czech Koruna Weaks Against Euro Amid CNB Policy Stance
The Czech koruna (CZK) has been weakening against the euro (EUR) in recent trading sessions, as the Czech National Bank (CNB) maintains its steady policy stance. Commerzbank analysts suggest that the CNB's cautious approach is driven by persistent domestic inflation pressures and a tight labor market.
The EUR/CZK pair has moved from around 24.80 in early June to approximately 25.10 by mid-July, a depreciation of about 1.2%. The analysts note that this softening is primarily due to the policy divergence between the CNB and the European Central Bank (ECB), which has signaled possible rate cuts in the second half of 2025.
Commerzbank's comments highlight the importance of the CNB's communication, stating 'Any hint of a rate cut in the coming months could accelerate the koruna's depreciation, while a more patient CNB could stabilize the currency.'
