DAX Falls Below 100-Day Average as Oil Prices Surge
The DAX 40 index fell by 0.57% to close at 25,266.53 on Thursday, September 24, 2026. This decline comes despite a strong Ifo business climate reading in Germany, which was expected to limit the losses.
Rising oil prices at the end of the session overshadowed the positive economic data and pushed the index below its 100-day average. The DAX had already shed over 3% this month before Thursday's decline.
The broader German market fared worse, with the MDAX dropping 1.39%. Analysts note that higher energy prices and stronger data reinforce expectations of further European Central Bank rate increases, which has pushed Germany's 10-year Bund yield to about 3.6%, its highest level since September 2008.
Infineon fell nearly 4% mirroring weakness in chip stocks on Wall Street, while BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz Group were among the notable decliners. Defensive and industrial names such as Siemens, Henkel, MTU Aero Engines, and Deutsche Telekom traded higher through much of the session.
