Dewi Sukarno fined 200,000 yen for assaulting former assistant and manager

Japanese TV personality Dewi Sukarno, 86, has been fined 200,000 yen ($1,300) for assaulting her former assistant and manager. The Tokyo District Court ruled that throwing a champagne glass and physically attacking the two individuals constituted dangerous behavior with no mitigating circumstances.

Judge Toshikazu Ishida rejected Dewi's defense that she did not throw the glass, citing video evidence provided by the former manager. The incidents occurred on Feb. 13 and Oct. 28, 2022, at a restaurant and an animal hospital in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward, respectively.

During the trial, Dewi expressed remorse, but her defense argued she suffered financial losses of about 90 million yen due to canceled appearances following the incidents. Known as Madame Dewi in Japan, she once led a political organization advocating for animal welfare.
