Dhingra Sees Winter Clarity on Inflation Pressures

Swati Dhingra, an interest rate-setter at the Bank of England, believes that the winter months will provide clarity on long-term inflation pressures in Britain. The country is experiencing a weaker jobs market and lower demand levels compared to the US.

Dhingra stated that the extent of long-term inflation caused by the Iran war will become clearer over the coming winter months. She emphasized that this period will allow for better understanding of wage settlements, which are currently uncertain.

The Bank of England has been under pressure from investors to raise interest rates in line with the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve. However, Dhingra argued that the BoE's decision to keep borrowing costs on hold is justified given the current economic conditions in Britain.
