Dhingra Sees Winter Clarity on Inflation Pressures from Iran War

Bank of England policymaker Swati Dhingra believes that the true extent of long-term inflation pressures stemming from the Iran war will become clearer during winter months. Speaking at a conference hosted by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, Dhingra noted that Britain is not experiencing widespread price increases like those seen in 2022 when energy costs surged following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Dhingra pointed out that the country's labor market has weakened since then. She emphasized that key indicators will emerge over the coming months, particularly with regard to winter energy pricing and wage settlements.

The policymaker previously supported reducing borrowing costs when the Bank of England implemented rate cuts but has since aligned with the majority in maintaining current interest rates.
