Diesel Price Surge Fuels Inflation Fears
Diesel prices have reached record highs due to disruptions in supply caused by conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, putting pressure on inflation in the euro zone.
The European Central Bank's (ECB) Vujcic warned that energy prices, particularly diesel, will likely remain high for a long time, feeding into inflation as it is used in many products.
The surge in diesel prices was exacerbated by drone attacks on Russian refineries and disruptions to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz due to tensions with Iran. Additionally, Chinese refiners have prioritized domestic demand over exports.
Vujcic stated that 'energy prices, particularly diesel, will probably stay high for long and that will feed into inflation because diesel is really in many products.'
