Dollar and Euro Soar in Cuba's Informal Market Amid Persistent Inflation
The informal currency exchange in Cuba continues to surge, with the U.S. dollar and euro experiencing significant gains on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
By 10:00 a.m. local time, the dollar had risen by 9 pesos from the previous day's close of 754 CUP, trading at 763 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market.
The euro also opened strong, climbing 4 pesos to reach 867 CUP, its highest point in the last 30 days.
The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) experienced a slight dip, hovering around 490 CUP, down 4.5 pesos from the previous day's rate of 495 CUP.
The unofficial market operates independently of state financial institutions and is facilitated through networks of private exchanges.
