Dollar and Euro Surge in Cuba's Informal Currency Market
The informal currency market in Cuba has seen another day of fluctuations, with the dollar and euro experiencing an upward trend. At the closing session on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the U.S. dollar was trading at around 760 Cuban pesos (CUP), marking a 7-peso increase from the previous day's rate of 753 CUP.
The euro also rose to 865 CUP, an increase of 10 pesos compared to the previous day's rate of 855 CUP. This upward trend is consistent with the past week's performance, where both currencies have seen a significant rise in value.
Over the last month, the dollar has gained 82 pesos, while the euro has accumulated a rise of nearly 96 pesos. This disparity between the official exchange rate and the informal market highlights the pressure on the Cuban peso against foreign currencies.
