The dollar index rose 0.23 percent to 99.34 points, while the euro fell 0.28 percent to $1.1565, and sterling stood at $1.3503.
Oil prices also spiked, with Brent crude futures rising two percent to $106.7 per barrel amid concerns over supply disruptions in the region.
