Dollar and Yen Locked in Tight Battle Ahead of BoJ Decision

The U.S. dollar (USD) and Japanese yen (JPY) are locked in a tight battle, with each currency pulling in opposite directions.

The Bank of Japan's interest rate decision on Friday is set to be a key directional catalyst, as the market widely expects a 25 basis point hike to a 31-year high of 1.25%.

This move would mark the highest level in roughly 31 years and is seen as a hawkish repricing of the Bank of Japan's interest-rate hike trajectory.

The yen has begun to appreciate due to this expectation, but its modest gains are being capped by the strong U.S. dollar.

Oil-price-driven inflation concerns and risk-aversion sentiment stemming from Middle East tensions have also bolstered the safe-haven appeal of the USD.
