Dollar Declines as Middle East Tensions Drive Oil Prices Higher
The US dollar index declined by 0.11 to 101.3 as of 11:38 am, while energy supply disruption risks from the Strait of Hormuz complicated the inflation outlook ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday.
Renewed Middle East tensions pushed oil prices sharply higher, with WTI up 3.92% and Brent up 3.55%, making crude oil a significant contributor to the rising energy costs that are driving inflation in the US.
The most-traded container shipping freight futures (Europe route) rose 2.63% to 2,870 points at the midday close, indicating increased demand for transportation of goods and commodities.
