Dollar Dips Ahead of Fed Minutes and Policymaker Speeches
The US dollar maintained its losses on Wednesday as markets shifted focus to upcoming Federal Reserve minutes and speeches from policymakers. The euro saw its largest gain in seven weeks the previous day after French bond yields dropped following the frontrunner’s plans to reduce spending. The yen weakened despite a Bank of Japan member’s support for rate hikes.
The dollar index rose slightly to 101.94 after a 0.27% decline in the prior session. The euro dipped 0.08% to $1.1249, while the yen weakened 0.19% against the dollar. Sterling fell 0.08% to $1.3262. Bond yields globally have risen due to central bank rate hike expectations and government finance concerns.
Expectations for a Fed rate hike in October have decreased to 20.5%, down from 51% a week ago, but markets anticipate a hike in December. Fed officials, including Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid, continue to advocate for further rate increases to combat inflation. Bitcoin and ether saw minor declines, with bitcoin falling 0.22% to $85,438.59 and ether dropping 0.12% to $2,695.22.
