Dollar Falls as Yen Struggles with Hawkish Global Central Banks
The US dollar experienced a slight decline on Tuesday, September 22, while the Japanese yen continued to come under pressure. Traders seem to believe that Japan's policymakers will struggle to keep up with the increasingly hawkish stance of global central banks.
This divergence in monetary policies has left Japan's interest rates significantly behind those of its major peers. As a result, the yen lost value against the dollar, reaching 157.47 in the Asia session.
The euro and sterling also saw some gains, with the euro rising to $1.1476 and sterling to $1.3383. The Australian dollar hovered around $0.7120, while the New Zealand dollar experienced a boost after its central bank chief made remarks that were seen as hawkish.
The New Zealand dollar rose by about 0.4% from its near three-month low to $0.5736.
