Dollar Hits Five-Week High Amid Fed Rate Hike Speculation

The US dollar has continued to strengthen, reaching its highest point in nearly five weeks. The dollar index stood at 101.49 on Tuesday, a level not seen since June 25. Despite a slight retreat in oil prices, which eased some inflation fears, the dollar's resilience remained intact.

Market speculation surrounding a potential Federal Reserve interest rate hike this week has contributed to the dollar's stability. Since April, Treasury yields have risen due to the US-Iran conflict and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's signals of a possible rate increase. According to Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at Corpay, traders are fortifying their dollar positions ahead of Wednesday's policy decision.

The week also brings pivotal central bank meetings, with the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan expected to hold rates steady while cautioning against inflation. The Japanese yen faces significant declines, prompting potential market interventions.
