Dollar Index Hits 100.25 as Euro and Pound Slide
The U.S. dollar experienced a late surge on Wednesday, climbing to its highest point against several major currencies.
The dollar index, which tracks the greenback's performance against six major peers, rose by 0.64% to 100.252 at 15:00 (1900 GMT). This increase marked a notable shift in currency markets, as the dollar had been relatively stable in recent sessions.
Against individual currencies, the euro lost value, trading at 1.1470 U.S. dollars from its previous level of 1.1543 dollars. The British pound also dropped to 1.3382 dollars from its earlier rate of 1.3481 U.S. dollars.
The dollar's gains were not limited to these major currencies, however. It also rose against the Japanese yen, the Swiss franc, and the Canadian dollar, among others.
