Dollar Poised for Biggest Monthly Gain Against Euro Since May
The US dollar has been rising against its European counterpart, and it's poised to make a significant gain in September. The euro has fallen to its lowest level since May 2025, trading at $1.1312 overnight and $1.1339 in Asia. This decline is largely due to concerns over energy supplies and debt in Europe.
Brent Donnelly, president of foreign exchange trading at analytics firm Spectra Markets, attributed the euro's weakness to several factors: 'The US economy is running hot, Europe is losing the global AI race, and energy supplies and French politics remain big concerns for the euro.'
The dollar has gained nearly 2.5% against the euro this month, with its Australian counterpart also falling below 70 cents for the first time since early August.
