Dollar Rally Reaches Breaking Point as Traders Bet Against Trend
The U.S. dollar has been rising steadily against major currencies like the yen, euro, and New Zealand dollar, creating an unusual trend where traders are betting against it.
Retail clients at StoneX have taken a neutral stance on the dollar but now tip against it due to its consistent move, which has become 'stretched' according to Alex Ridgers, Global Head of Retail Dealing Desk. The euro and New Zealand dollar show similar patterns, falling in a straight line as the U.S. dollar strengthens.
Ridgers notes that there is no sudden spike or panic buying behind this rally, only steady demand from funds and prop firms adding to their positions each day. This has led traders waiting for a sharp reversal to find the trend simply 'grinding' on without exhausting its momentum.
