Dollar Retreats as Markets Scale Back Rate Hike Bets
The US dollar has pulled back as markets scale back their bets on a Federal Reserve rate hike. The odds of an October rate hike dropped sharply after New York Fed President John Williams said the Fed didn't need to raise rates immediately.
Williams' statement was a cold shower for EUR/USD bears, who had been betting on higher interest rates. As a result, the derivatives market reduced the probability of an October rate hike from 73% to 53%, allowing the EUR/USD to rebound.
The rally in Treasury yields is causing panic, with yields on 10- and 30-year US Treasuries climbing to their highest levels since 2022. The surge in yields has occurred without major fresh developments on inflation, GDP growth, or the Fed's monetary policy.
