Dollar Rises Against Dong, Yen, Euro Amid Safe-Haven Appeal
The US dollar strengthened against several major currencies, including the Vietnamese dong and yen, on Friday. In Vietnam, the greenback rose to VND26,430 at Vietcombank, up 0.04% from Thursday's close. The State Bank of Vietnam's reference rate also jumped 0.12% to VND25,463.
On the global stage, the dollar gained against several major peers, including the euro and yen. Against the euro, it rose to $1.1521, up about 0.3% from Thursday. The Australian dollar weakened slightly to $0.7029.
The greenback's strength was attributed to a combination of factors, including higher Treasury yields and doubts about an Iran peace deal. This buffed the US currency's appeal as a safe-haven asset, causing it to rise against several major currencies.
