Dollar Rises as US Imposes Sanctions on Iran and Tariffs on Canada

The US dollar rose to 98.99 points after the Trump administration expanded sanctions against Iran and imposed new tariffs on Canada.

The move aims to increase pressure on Tehran to stop attacks on vessels in the Persian Gulf, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The Canadian dollar fell by 0.61% to 1.385 Canadian dollars per US dollar, its biggest daily decline since June 17.
