Dollar Soars on Hawkish Fed Comments Amid Oil Price Volatility
The US dollar index (DXY) reached a 7-week high on Tuesday, up by 0.17%, as hawkish comments from the Federal Reserve provided support to the currency.
Boston Fed President Susan Collins and Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin suggested that inflation pressures could remain elevated, which may lead to additional tightening of monetary policy.
However, gains in the dollar were limited due to a decline in WTI crude oil prices, which fell over 1% to a 3-week low. This easing of inflation expectations potentially persuaded the Fed to loosen monetary policy, making it bearish for the dollar.
