The Iranian rial has hit an all-time low against the US dollar, with the exchange rate reaching a historic high of over 243,000 tomans on Monday, September 28. The state-run Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), attributed the currency's dramatic increase to speculation fueled by Bessent's remarks. According to Fars, unofficial trading channels expanded their activity following Bessent's statements, driving up the exchange rate.

At its peak on Monday morning, the dollar reached 240,500 tomans before breaking through the 243,000-toman mark just a few hours later. The sudden and drastic increase in value has left many in Iran wondering about the implications of Bessent's comments for their country's economy.
