Dollar Stalls Ahead of Fed Rate Decision Amid Oil Price Plateau
The dollar's recent surge has stalled as oil prices plateaued and investors await the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates. The Fed is widely expected to raise its benchmark rate by a quarter of a percentage point, from 3.50% to 3.75%-4.00%. Kirstine Kundby-Nielsen, senior FX analyst at Danske Bank, noted that dollar strength could persist if interest rates increase, even if such hikes are mostly priced in.
The dollar's ascent has been correlated with rising yields and energy prices, outpacing the yen and New Zealand dollar. However, currency markets have remained relatively stable, with global bond yields climbing to maintain relative yield differences.
